Building Homes for Heroes Hosts “Notes of Love” for USAF Veteran and his Family Being Gifted a Mortgage-Free Dream Finders Home at Rivington
DEBARY, Fla. – With their mortgage-free home in the final stages of construction in the Rivington community, the Cable family can read dozens of encouraging and inspirational notes left by Dream Finders Homes’ well-wishers and others playing a role in providing the family with this life-changing gift.
“Notes of Love” – part of the Building Homes for Heroes’ program – includes heartfelt writings by neighbors, trades people, and employees from Dream Finders Homes and Reader and Hillwood communities to welcome the Cable family into their soon-to-be forever home.
Cable served in the US Air Force for 10 years. He was medically discharged after developing leukemia from exposure to chemicals in the Middle East and is now in his second remission.
“We’re excited to be part of this event for the Cable family,” said Gerry Boeneman, the Dream Finders Homes’ Orlando Division president. “We’re also very grateful for the sacrifices made by the staff sergeant, his wife, Ensley and their son, Cade.”
The home is being made possible by donations of all types and sizes, he said, adding that Reader and Hillwood Communities donated the 50-foot homesite in the walkable, transit-oriented DeBary Community off of Fort Florida Road along the St. Johns River.
Dream Finders Homes – a Jacksonville-based preferred builder at Rivington – was selected by Reader and Hillwood to build the home, a 2,853-square-foot Anna Maria plan, with four bedrooms and three bathrooms valued at approximately $474,389. They will be gifting the home in partnership with Building Homes for Heroes.
“Several of our trade partners and subcontractors also are joining us in donating hours and materials,” Boeneman said.

Founded by Andy Pujol after he volunteered in the search-and-rescue in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks, Building Homes for Heroes is a national nonprofit organization that builds and modifies homes and gifts them, mortgage-free, to veterans and their families. Since 2006, Building Homes for Heroes has modified and gifted more than 320 homes, in national partnership with builders and patriotic corporations including Advance Auto Parts and Lowe’s, companies that have long been grounded in their support for our nation’s military.

“We couldn’t be prouder to partner with Dream Finders Homes, Reader Communities and Hillwood Communities to build a home for this deserving hero and his beautiful family,” said Pujol. “Together, we’re building better and brighter lives and making our communities and country a better place for all to see.”

At the groundbreaking ceremony for the family’s home, Staff Sergeant Cable expressed his appreciation and said the mortgage-free house lets him know that his “family will always be taken care of.”
